It is located in the city of Ternopil in Ukraine. The institute was founded in 1957. In 1997 it received the status of medical academy, and in 2004 that of a university.

Ranking and Reputation

The Ukraine Ministry of Health has ranked Ternopil National Medical University first among the medical universities in Ukraine. It has been awarded the IV (highest) accreditation level by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Academic Provisions

Teaching Staff

The pedagogical staff numbers 408 teachers, including 71 Doctors of Science, 59 professors, 124 associate professors, and 261 Candidates of Science. The staff includes one Corresponding Member of AMS of Ukraine, 8 Honored Workers of Science and Technology of Ukraine, 3 Honored Inventors of Ukraine, and 4 Honored Physicians of Ukraine.

Teaching
The student population of the faculty is over 3000, including more than 1000 foreign students. Classes usually consists of 8-12 persons. There are 10 lecture-halls equipped with modern demonstration apparatus. Practical classes and seminars are held in the laboratories and thematic classrooms, while clinical training takes place in the wards and the laboratories of functional and instrumental diagnostics. Since 2006 the “Z-system” of training has been introduced, by which students in their first years learn clinical aspects together with theoretical subjects. Different departments are located at different locations around Ternopil city.
Languages of instruction are Ukrainian, English, and Russian.

Qualifications
Ternopil National Medical University is listed in the FAIMER (International Medical Education) directory under ECFMG and the WHO (World Health Organization) directory of Medical Universities/Schools. TNMU’s degree is recognized by WHO, US Education Department, General Medical Council of England, and in EU countries.

Since 2005 students are assessed according to the European Credit Test System (ECTS) credit-module system, which will allow the diplomas granted by the University to be converted in all countries of the European Union.

Faculties
The university contains the following faculties: Medicine (6 years – MD program), Dentistry (5 years), Pharmacy (5 years), and Nursing (2–4 years). Postgraduate programs are also offered in different fields.

The theoretical departments of the faculty occupy four educational scientific institutes, which are independent structural-functional subdivisions of the University: Institute of Morphology, Institute of Biomedical Problems, Institute of Modeling and Pathologic Processes Analyzing, and M. Skakun Institute of Pharmacology, Hygiene and Medical Biochemistry. There are 12 clinical departments, based at city and regional medical establishments in Ternopil.

Postgraduate Education

Postgraduate can study for Master’s Degree or a PhD. Other continuing education includes a Training Internship Program, and provision for clinical specialization.

Vacation Activities

International summer schools have involved students from the University of South Carolina, Moscow State University, Kazakh Medical Academy, Shlyonsky Medical Academy (Poland), National Pharmaceutical University (Kharkiv). The university also offers students a chance to travel abroad for student exchange programs during summer.

Foreign Students

More than 1000 international students from 28 different countries are studying in Ternopil National Medical University.
The University collaborates with a number of foreign institutions.

Ternopil National Medical University is the first university in Ukraine to adopt the American Nursing Program. In the American Nursing School and International Nursing School, teaching follows the American Nursing School curriculum. TNMU collaborates with the University of South Carolina Upstate (USA) to exchange academic programs for nursing students. The Nursing School offers two degrees:

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) – two-year program
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – four-year program (or two years for those who already have a nursing degree)
After graduation students are eligible to take the National Council License Examination (NCLEX) and Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) for registered nurses to start working and living in USA. After obtaining associate degree, students can transfer to USA for bachelor’s degree.

Accommodation

The campus provides convenient accommodation for international students, interns, Master degree students, resident physicians, Ph.D. students, preparatory course students and post-graduate students for the duration of their studies at the university as well as applicants during entrance exams.

The educational, nationally patriotic, cultural and sports activities of students within the campus are coordinated by Campus administration. It also controls the room tidiness, housekeeping, and enforcement of safety rules by the students.
The dormitory has a total of 206 rooms and a total housing capacity of 508 persons.

There are 3 living wings on each floor of the dormitory.
There are 3 suites, a kitchen, and a common room, with essential equipment and a utility room in each wing. The suit contains a toilet, a shower, 2 double occupancy rooms, and 2 triple occupancy rooms.

Each room of the dormitory can accommodate 2 or 3 students for each room.
All the rooms are furnished with a bed, mattress, pillow, desk, chair, heater, blanket, water heaters and suitable lighting for both study and relaxation.
Each room in the hostel is equipped with a kitchen where students can cook their own food.

All the rooms have central heaters and attached washrooms.
In most of the rooms of the dormitory, the internet is available.
